BE ACTIVE AGAIN WITH OUR KNEE PAIN TREATMENT
Knee pain is a condition that affects many people, particularly active ones. It is a condition that affects people to varying degrees and there are many ways in which it can be treated depending on the root cause of the pain.
Common Types of Knee Pain, Causes, and Symptoms
A common cause of pain in the knee is an injury called a meniscus tear. The meniscus is a piece of squishy cartilage between the shinbone and the thighbone. This piece of cartilage can tear when it is twisted forcefully, and it often occurs in physical sports or activities. Sufferers of this type of injury will often experience stiffness, swelling, and difficulty in extending the knee.
Another common knee injury and source of pain are ACL/PCL injuries. The ACL and PCL are both ligaments in the knee that are often damaged during physical activities particularly those that require sudden twisting motions. This injury is characterized by knee swelling, pain, and instability.
Runner’s knee, or Chondromalacia, is another common knee injury usually present in active people, typically runners. A movement that requires a hard jolt to the knee, such as the repetitive pounding of the foot on the ground during running, can cause this injury to develop to the natural cartilage cushions in the knee. The main symptom of this condition is pain in the knee that worsens when walking up stairs, squatting, or kneeling.
One of the most common causes of knee pain is knee degeneration or osteoarthritis in the knee. As people age, the cartilage at the ends of bones tends to wear down. This can lead to the bones rubbing on each other instead of gliding smoothly like they are supposed to. Sufferers of this condition will notice symptoms of pain in the knee when bearing weight, stiffness, and difficulty moving the joint without pain.
